This World of
Warcraft Intro is designed
to introduce you to the phenomenon of WoW, the highly
addictive role playing game which is growing in acclaim
and popularity the world over. With this World of
Warcraft intro you will get a solid understanding of the
game, it’s background and why millions of people all over
the world simply can’t get enough of
it!
WoW History
WoW or
World of Warcraft is a massively multiplayer online
role-playing game (MMORPG) designed by Jeff Kaplan, Rob Pardo
and Tom Chilton, and developed and published by Blizzard
Entertainment. It is Blizzard’s 4th game in it’s Warcraft series
and is played by more than 8 million people worldwide. This
MMORPG takes place in the sphere of Azeroth’s Warcraft world,
two years following the dealings at the closing stages of
Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.
WoW was announced by Blizzard Entertainment
on September 2, 2001 but was not released until three years
later on November 23, 2004. The Burning Crusade, which is the
first expansion collection of the game, was launched on the
16th of January in 2007. The second expansion of the game, the
Wrath of the Lich King, was launched on November 13,
2008.
As WoW is currently the largest and most well
known MMORPG in the world with millions of monthly subscribers,
it has even earned a Guinness World Record. WoW was estimated
to hold 62 percent of the massively multiplayer online game
market in April 2008.
World of Azeroth
WoW is set
in Azeroth’s world and has the same art direction. It occurs in
a three-dimensional account of the Warcraft universe in which
players can intermingle by means of their characters. Three
continents on Azeroth’s world are featured on the game
world.
This MMORPG also features
Draenor, which is a separate planet known to be the original
home of the Draenei and Orc races that are currently being
pertained to as Outland.
WoW Characters
Players
adopt a character through which they live and journey through
Azeroth. In the World of Warcraft there are two main character
types:
1) Player Characters or "PC’s"
(controlled by real people)
2) Non-Player Characters or
"NPC’s" (controlled by Blizzard's gaming software)
WoW Factions
Obviously
all players are PC’s. To create your character, your first
choice is which Faction you want to pledge your allegance to.
There are two opposing Factions, they are:
1) Horde
2) Alliance
Characters from the two
contrasting Factions can carry out rudimentary trade and
communication, but only affiliates of the same Faction can
speak, group, e-mail and share guilds. A guild is formed when a
group of players join together for adventure, companionship,
economic gain and other benefits and opportunities.
WoW Races
Then,
within each Faction are 5 races. They are:
Horde Races
1)
Orc
2) Tauren
3) Trolls
4) Blood Elves
5) Undead
Alliance Races
1)
Dwarves
2) Gnomes
3) Humans
4) Draenei
5) Night Elves
WoW Classes
Having
chosen your faction and race, you must now choose a class. Each
race has several classes you can choose from. With the release
of the new expansions there are now 10 character classes in
total to choose from. They are:
1) Druid
2) Hunter
3) Mage
4) Paladin
5) Priest
6) Rogue
7) Shaman
8) Warlock
9) Warrior
10) Death Knight
Each character class is very
unique though and a player should choose a class thoughtfully,
because each WoW class has it’s own traits, talents, strengths
and weaknesses. You’ll find loads of information on this site
to help you decide.
Players utilize their
characters to be able to explore locations, overthrow
creatures, and complete missions among other such dealings in
this game world. By doing so, the player progresses through the
game by gaining levels, or ‘leveling’. The aim of course is to
continue leveling through the game to unleash a continuing new
set of adventures.
